Ethnocentrism

Ethnocentrism

1. On the lines below, write a definition of Ethnocentrism. Find one on the web.

Ethnocentrism is when a group of people think that they are better from other groups, or people from same country think that their country better than other country.  That makes many isms, for example, prejudice, and specially discrimination.  For example, when I was at high school some Bedouins think that they are better than the citizens, so they were fighting with citizens.

2. Read the cartoon. How is Ethnocentrism reflected in the conversation below?

Write your answer on the lines below.

Some people do not give any respect for other cultures like they are live in the world with themselves, and they thought that they are better than all.  On the other hand some people try to know about how to treat people from other cultural and give respect to them, because they know that the world is not for them.

3. Looking at the cartoon characters.

Describe Bucky

This type of people like this character will not agree or be kind for people how they are from different culture, and they will only associate with people who from same culture or like what they think.  Moreover, this type of people “intolerance people” will only prefer events that from their culture and will not watch movies that shows people at their cultures with all different things than intolerance people culture.

Describe the man talking with Bucky. Let’s call him Tom

People like Tom are interesting to know about other culture, and this type of people will be very happy to help or deal with people from different cultures, to show respect for them. Furthermore, tolerant people will have development in their ideas, experiments and general education from other people. For example, we can take from other people experience but may be people from our culture do not have experience on what we want so, we take them from other culture people.

Reflictive assay 4

Culture diversity, have many benefits but may be bring some problems between people from different cultures.  Many thinkers talk about culture diversity and max between people, to let people know how to treat people from different culture and to make respect between cultures.  This assay will contain three quotations that will be explained in it.

First quotation "Whoever has no past has neither present nor future" (Sheikh Zayed – 1971).  It is mean you have to save your traditions because that is make you special, and that make your present and future.  This is very important between maxing cultures because people have to save their traditions to not effect with different cultures and to make respect to all cultures.  It is related to my course because it is showing how the traditions are important for each culture.  I chose it because as I mention it let me know that traditions is important for each tradition.

Second quotation “The love of one’s country is a splendid thing, but why should it stop at the border?” (Pablo Casals ).  It is mean that it is beautiful to love your country and he is mean the whole world not only your love is for what inside the borders.  This is an important quotation, because if people love all countries, that is mean respect will be between them.  This quotation relate to my culture diversity course, because if people love all country that mean there will not be racism between them.  I had chosen it because people have to love all countries because the earth is not for specific country but it is for all people.

Finally quotation "We live now in a global village and we are in one single family. It’s our responsibility to bring friendship and love from all different places around the world and to live together in peace." (Jackie Chan).  It is mean that the world is like big village and it is our responsibility to have friendship from different cultures to know about that culture, and that make respect between people because they will know more about different cultures.  This is an important quotation, because their people do not want to mix with people from different culture and this is their problem.  This quotation related to my culture diversity curse, because it said that people should talk and treat each other to make respect and know about other cultures.  I chose this quotation, because a character said it and he show in his movies that the world is like a village.

In my opinion, this is a very good thing to educate people about culture diversity.  Moreover, it is a responsibility for all people to learn about other country cultures to respect them, or at least know about the most culture that in you village.  Furthermore, the world is not only for special country but it for all people around the world

Reflective Essay 3

Many people have different Stereotyping is making assumptions about somebody or a group of people based on their looks, heritage, or even skin color. Stereotypes have also been made based on gender, IQ levels, and age.       An example of a stereotype is, for example, you see someone walking down the street and they are walking crooked and they have a weird look on their face, in your head you could be thinking how this guy is a junkie and he is on drugs.

Next Prejudices is never going to stop unless everyone finally realizes that we are ALL created equally no matter the color of our skin, or anything we believe in. Until this happens there will always be prejudice in the world, unfortunately .example when someone is said to be intellectually dumb just because of his overweight

Discrimination refers to the treatment and attitude a person takes toward a single person or group of people based on bias. It can also refer to someone who is able to make a very fine judgment and has an eye for detail.  There can be many types and forms of discrimination. Once you make a distinction of someone not basing it on personal merit it is an act of discrimination. For example sexism, racism, sexual orientation, religious and spiritual.

My comments on " Mind your Language"

In this video there is a lot culture diversity. For example, the people are from different countries and they speak in different languages with noticed accent differences. Also they all have different religions. This video mainly shows the stereotypes as they begin as a joke and finish as discrimination. For example, when Ms. Coutney says to Mr. Brown that she prefers a female teacher. Other discrimination is religion discrimination which is between Ali Nadeem ( Muslim ) and Rangeet Singh ( seek). At the end , we all should avoid discriminations and deal with each other equally.

The flow of migrants to rich countries carries many problems including unemployment and the difficulty of integration add racism, habits, diseases and the negative aspects Such as loss of native language and For example the spread of unemployment in some developing countries, such as America, Germany, and other .This is what causes the spread of crime and lack of safety in some countries.

They also bring a determination to succeed, any diversity of knowledge and desire, and of immigrants managed to achieve those outstanding. And got Some migrants international awards such as the Nobel Prize and others.
